Why American Fork Homeowners Call Water Damage Specialists for Drains
Snake, rooter, jetter, and camera on every truck
We do not come out, look at the clog, and schedule a second visit for the right tool. Whatever the drain needs, it is on the truck, and most clogs are cleared in one visit.
Within the hour, from 10 minutes away
We dispatch 24/7 and most American Fork calls see a plumber on site within the hour. A main line backup at 11 p.m. on a Sunday gets the same response as a Tuesday morning.
Published prices, written quote before work
Our cost table is on this page because we would rather you know the range before you call than be surprised after. You get the exact number in writing before we start, with no hidden fees, and the rate is quoted before work begins at any hour.
Licensed, and we show you the number
Utah State Contractor License #7033426-5501. Every technician is background-checked. Most drain cleaning ads say "licensed and insured" and never give you a way to check; ours is one search away on the Utah DOPL site.
We show you the footage
Every main line job gets a camera, and you see what we see. No "trust us, it was roots."
Drain cleaning and cleanup from one company
When the backup has already happened, we are the only drain company in American Fork that does not hand you a phone number for someone else.

Why American Fork Drains Clog, and the Signs It Is Getting Worse
A drain does not clog in a day. It narrows for months and then stops on the one morning everyone is showering. In American Fork the narrowing comes from five things, and which one it is depends a lot on where in town you live:
- Tree roots in clay and cast iron laterals. The historic blocks around Main Street and the tabernacle sit on sewer laterals that are 60 to 100 years old, under trees that are older. Roots enter at every joint, catch paper and grease, and the whole line slows. This is the number one cause of main line clogs downtown, and it comes back every 12 to 24 months unless the roots are cut properly or the line is lined.
- Hard-water scale. Utah Valley water is among the hardest on the Wasatch Front. Calcium builds inside drain lines the way it builds inside a kettle, and a 2-inch kitchen line can be down to an inch of clear pipe after 15 years. Scale is also what makes a cabled drain clog again quickly: the snake punches a hole, the scale stays.
- Grease, soap, and food. The kitchen line is the most-clogged drain in any house. Grease cools and sticks, soap scum binds to it, and coffee grounds and rice fill in the gaps. A disposal that is undersized or failing makes it worse; see American Fork garbage disposal repair.
- Builder debris and bellies in newer subdivisions. The homes toward Utah Lake, along Pioneer Crossing, and up toward the Alpine Highway are not immune. We regularly pull drywall mud, mortar, and construction debris out of laterals that have been there since the framing crews, and a lateral that was not bedded properly can sag into a belly that holds waste.
- Wipes, hygiene products, and "flushable" anything. None of it breaks down. It snags on the first rough joint or root and builds a dam.
The warning signs, in order of urgency: a drain that is slow but still drains; gurgling from a toilet or tub when another fixture runs; water pooling around a floor drain or shower; water backing up into a lower fixture (shower fills when the washer drains, basement toilet bubbles when an upstairs toilet flushes); and a sewer smell near a floor drain. Several slow drains at once means the problem is in the main line, and the next step is a backup on the basement floor.
Most drain cleaning companies have one tool and sell it for everything. We carry all three on every truck and match the tool to the clog, because the cheapest method that actually solves the problem is the right one.
Cabling, Hydro Jetting, or Camera? How We Choose
| Method | What it does | When we use it | Published price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drain snake / rooter (cabling) | A rotating cable with a cutting head bores through the blockage and, with the right blade, cuts roots in 3- to 6-inch main lines. | Single-fixture clogs, toilet clogs, first-time main line root intrusions. Fast and usually enough. | $150 to $350+ for a sink, shower, or tub; $250 to $600+ for a main line through the cleanout |
| Hydro jetting | A high-pressure hose, typically 3,000 to 4,000 psi, scours the full diameter of the pipe, stripping grease, scale, and root hair off the walls instead of punching a hole through the middle. | Kitchen lines packed with grease and scale, main lines that re-clog within a year of cabling, commercial kitchens, and any line we are about to camera. | $300 to $600+ for a kitchen line; $400 to $900+ for a residential main |
| Sewer camera inspection | A camera on a push rod records the inside of the line from the cleanout to the city tap and locates the problem to the foot. | Any repeat clog, any main line clog, before any repair quote, and before you buy a house. It is the only way to know whether you have roots, a belly, a break, or debris. | $150 to $350+, often discounted with service |
What the camera changes
Without it, a plumber is guessing. With it, we can tell you "roots at 38 feet at the joint under the maple" and show you the footage. That is the difference between cabling the same line every spring and fixing it once.
What we do not do
We do not pour chemical drain cleaners, and we will ask you not to either. They do not clear roots or scale, they corrode older cast iron, and they make the line dangerous for the plumber who opens it next.
The main line is the 4-inch pipe that carries everything from your house to the city sewer under the street. In American Fork it is anywhere from 30 to 100 feet long, and it is the line that floods a basement when it fails.
Main Sewer Line Cleaning and Repair in American Fork
- Find the cleanout. Most American Fork homes have one near the foundation or in the basement floor. Older homes near downtown often do not, and we access the line by pulling a toilet or through the roof vent. If you need a cleanout installed, it runs $500 to $1,500+ and pays for itself the first time the line is cleared through it instead of through the house.
- Cable and camera. We clear the blockage with a root-cutting rooter, then run the camera to see what caused it and what condition the pipe is in. Recurring root intrusion, an offset joint, or a crack means the line needs more than cleaning.
- Jet if the line needs it. Roots that have been cabled for years, grease that has hardened into the pipe, and scale that has narrowed the line all come off with hydro jetting, and the camera confirms it. When the pipe is structurally sound, this is the whole job.
- Fix what the camera found. Cracked clay joints, offset sections, and bellies do not stay cleared. We quote a spot repair or trenchless lining with the footage in front of you, and trenchless repair fixes a damaged or shifted line without tearing up the yard. We also tell you honestly when a line is fine and just needs an annual root cut.
- Prevent the repeat. Annual rooter service for root-prone laterals, an enzyme maintenance treatment that digests leftover grease residue in kitchen lines, and a backwater valve for homes in low-lying areas or on lines that have surcharged before.
Buying or selling a home in American Fork? A sewer camera inspection before closing is the best few hundred dollars you will spend. A clay lateral full of roots is a five-figure problem that does not show up on a standard home inspection.
A slow drain is a warning. A gurgling one is a countdown. A main line that has backed up is an emergency, and it does not wait until morning.
Clogged Drain in American Fork? Call (385) 484-0777.
Call (385) 484-0777 and a licensed plumber with a snake, a jetter, and a sewer camera will be on the way, usually within the hour, any hour of any day, with a written price before any work starts and a restoration crew behind him if the water got out. $50 off any service when you mention this page.
While you wait
- Stop running water anywhere in the house if a lower fixture is backing up. Every flush and shower sends more into a line that is already full.
- A plunger is fine. Chemical drain cleaner is not; it will not clear roots or scale and it makes the line hazardous to open.
- If water has come up a floor drain or toilet, keep kids and pets out of the room, do not run fans, and tell us when you call so the restoration technician comes with the plumber.

Clogged Drain in American Fork? Two Housing Stocks, Two Kinds of Clog
American Fork has two very different housing stocks, and they clog for different reasons. Many homes built before the 1970s near downtown and along Main Street still have original cast iron drain lines and clay or Orangeburg sewer laterals. Cast iron builds up scale that catches grease and debris, and clay laterals crack at the joints and let mature tree roots in; root intrusion is the number one cause of main sewer line clogs in older American Fork neighborhoods. Homes built in the last 20 years have PVC lines that rarely break, but they clog from grease, wipes, hair, hygiene products, and improperly vented or sloped drains, and finished basements with bathrooms below the sewer line rely on ejector pumps that can fail and back up. Across the board, Utah's hard water leaves mineral scale inside drain pipes that narrows them over time and gives grease and hair something to grab.
Snake, Rooter, Jetter, and Camera on Every Truck
A drain snake spins a steel cable with a cutting head down the pipe to break up the clog; a rooter is the heavy-duty version with root-cutting blades sized for 3- to 6-inch main lines. Snaking is fast and affordable and is the right fix for most clogs, but it clears a path through the blockage without removing the buildup on the pipe walls, so heavily scaled or greasy lines clog again. That is when we recommend hydro jetting: a high-pressure hose at 3,000 to 4,000 psi that cuts through roots, strips grease and scale off the walls, and flushes everything downstream, restoring the line to close to its original diameter. We camera the line first to find the source of the blockage and confirm what the job will require, and we camera it after to confirm it is clear, rather than guess.
Drain Cleaning Cost in American Fork
Kitchen, bathroom, or shower drain snake: $150 to $350+. Toilet auger or pull-and-reset: $150 to $400+. Main sewer line rooter through the cleanout: $250 to $600+. Sewer camera inspection: $150 to $350+, often discounted with service. Hydro jetting a kitchen line: $300 to $600+. Hydro jetting a residential main line: $400 to $900+. Cleanout installation where none exists: $500 to $1,500+. Price depends on the access point, how far down the clog is, and what is causing it. We quote before we start, and there is no charge for the estimate. If a line keeps clogging, we show you the camera footage and lay out the options, and we recommend jetting only when the pipe condition supports it.
When the Clog Has Already Backed Up Onto the Floor
Half of our main line calls in American Fork come in after the backup, not before: a floor drain that overflowed overnight, a basement toilet that came up, a shower full of gray water. At that point you have two problems, and every other drain company in town only fixes one of them.
The water that comes back up a drain is Category 3 contaminated water. Clearing the line stops it from getting worse; it does nothing about the carpet pad, drywall, and baseboard it already soaked. Because we are a restoration company with plumbers on staff, the same call handles both:
- The plumber clears the line and cameras it so it does not happen again tonight.
- A restoration technician contains the area, extracts the water, removes porous materials the sewage touched, disinfects, and sets drying equipment, all on the same visit. Our American Fork sewage cleanup page covers that process.
- Everything is photographed and documented. Sewer backup is usually covered only if your policy has a sewer and drain backup endorsement; we help you check, and we bill most carriers directly when you are covered.
For a clean-water overflow, such as a tub that ran over because the drain was slow, our American Fork water damage restoration crew handles the drying. Either way, do not run household fans on the water and keep kids and pets out of the room until we arrive.
American Fork Drain Cleaning FAQ
How fast can you clear a clogged drain in American Fork?
Most calls see a plumber on site within the hour, 24/7, and most single-fixture clogs are cleared in under an hour once we arrive. Main line clogs usually take one to two hours including the camera inspection. Call (385) 484-0777.
How much does drain cleaning cost in American Fork?
Snaking a sink, shower, or tub drain runs $150 to $350+; a main line rooter through the cleanout is $250 to $600+; hydro jetting a residential main is $400 to $900+; a sewer camera inspection is $150 to $350+ and is often discounted with service. A single slow bathroom sink is usually a localized clog; several slow drains at once point to the main line. Kitchen lines often cost more because grease and scale need jetting rather than a snake. Price depends on the access point, how far down the clog is, and the cause. You get a written quote before we start.
Should I use Drano or a chemical drain cleaner first?
No. Chemical cleaners do not dissolve roots, scale, or wipes, they corrode older cast iron and galvanized drains, and they sit in the trap as a hazard for whoever opens the line next. A plunger is fine. If that does not work, call.
What is the difference between snaking and hydro jetting?
A snake bores a hole through the clog; it is fast and usually enough for a single fixture or a first-time root clog. Hydro jetting scours the whole inside of the pipe at 3,000 to 4,000 psi, removing the grease and scale a snake leaves behind. If the same drain clogs again within a year of being snaked, jetting is the fix.
Why does my drain keep clogging every few months?
Because the snake cleared the blockage but not the cause. Roots regrow from the same joint, scale keeps narrowing the pipe, or a belly in the line keeps collecting waste. A camera inspection shows which one it is, so you fix it once instead of clearing it every spring.
Do you clean main sewer lines, or just inside the house?
Both. We clear and camera the main lateral from the cleanout to the city connection, cut roots, jet grease and scale, and quote spot repairs or trenchless lining when the camera finds a break.
The drain already backed up into my basement. Can you handle that?
Yes, and that is the main reason to call us instead of a drain-only company. The plumber clears the line and a restoration technician cleans up the contaminated water on the same visit. Details on our American Fork sewage cleanup page.
Do you offer free estimates for drain cleaning?
Yes. We quote before any work starts, and estimates are free during regular service hours. For a simple clog the quote takes about two minutes at the door.
